The availability of bulbous plants collections of an open ground at the Institute prompted interest in studying the world breeding trends for these cultures. The analysis of breeding novelties presented in the database of the Royal General Bulb Growers’ Association for the years 2007–2016 showed that for the ten years 2 059 bulbous plants cultivars were registered. The largest number of cultivar-samples was represented by tulips – 1 696 pieces, then narcissuses – 200 pieces, Spanish iris and bulbous iris – 100 pieces, crocuses – 36 pieces, muscari – 27 pieces. For each culture, their peaks of growth and fall are recorded. Among the majority of cultures examined, the maximum number of cultivars was registered in 2007–2008. However, bulbous plants have not become less interesting, so, new and interesting cultivars are bred that could replenish the institute's gene pool
