40 selected lilac hybrids (Syringa vulgaris L.) were studied at forest-steppe conditions of Altai region in the years 2014–2017. Rating evaluation of winter damage after conventional or unfavorable winters was carried out, the abundance of flowering as well as classification of winter hardiness were assessed. As a result 12 most abundant flowering and winter-hardy cultivars with minor injuries were selected. The hybrids obtained in this study can be used as sources of winter hardiness for further breeding work in direction of resistance to low temperature.
