The authors offer some recommendations for novice graduate students and their supervisors on how to choose and present (in the form of a report) the subject in a qualifying paper (dissertation) to be approved by the Scientific Council of the Russian Research Institute of Floriculture and Subtropical Crops. The requirements of normative legal acts to the content of the dissertation are listed, the need for careful study of the work justifiation is given, and the existing approval procedure applicable to the subject is presented, including some practical advice on the report formatting details.
