The paper analyzes the genesis of ideas about the structure and composition of Asparagaceae Juss. family in the changing classification of angiosperms, beginning from the taxonomy of A. L. Takhtadzhyan (1982) to the taxonomic system APG III (group of angiosperms phylogeny, 2009). It summarizes the data about morphological characteristics of its constituent subfamilies, which are considered as exemplified by asparagus species used in winter garden landscaping at the Russian Research Institute of Floriculture and Subtropical Crops.
