The paper is devoted to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Soviet and Russian scientist-breeder, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, professor, Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology V.V. Vorontsov. The name of Vorontsov V.V. is known in our country and abroad. Valentin Viktorovich is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 and a labor, awarded military orders and medals. Born in a family of famous scientists, he devoted his whole life to the issues of subtropical gardening and tea growing in the conditions of the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory; he also stood at the origins of the development of industrial floriculture in the south of the Russian Federation. In search of seeds for highly productive bay laurel cultivars, he visited Italy and Yugoslavia, as a result of which several million bay laurel seedlings were planted, which made it possible to completely replace the imported leaf with a domestic one. He was engaged in tea growing, so the specimens of tea bushes selected by him were grown in a nursery, and Valentin Viktorovich co-authored the experience in the book "Tea Culture in the USSR". For many years, V.V. Vorontsov was the head and performer of scientific topics on subtropical fruit and flower growing. Under his leadership, new laboratories with modern equipment were created, allowing conducting scientific research at a high scientific and methodological level. He was one of the initiators of the creation of a Research and Manufacturing Association for industrial floriculture and mountain gardening on the basis of the Institute. This new form of combining science with production was one of the first in the system of the Ministry of Agriculture of the USSR and played a major role in the introduction of new progressive technologies into the zonal agricultural production. Professor V.V. Vorontsov is the author of more than 200 scientific papers and a number of books on horticulture, floriculture and subtropical crops.
